I began my career in pure mathematics academia (a PhD and a postdoc in harmonic analysis) and then moved into machine learning from there.

 

I've done research on AI safety at MIRI, and I've worked as a machine learning engineer (and now manager) in several different fields:

• Search relevance (at an expired startup called Quixey)

• Location prediction and fraud prevention (at Lyft)

• Reliability of Siri's knowledge base (at Apple)

I'm now a Machine Learning Manager at Upstart, leading the team that generates the loan terms users see on partner sites (e.g. Credit Karma, LendingTree, NerdWallet) by modeling the final rate an applicant will see onsite.
